Creativity under Pressure

David’s post on “Constraints breed breakthrough creativity is exactly how 7dots is being developed. We’ve been talking about this system for months now and when a few other people started talking about the same type of idea - we started working much faster.

Working faster doesn’t mean you deliver a less superior product - it forces you to focus on the main purpose of your product and doing that well. Everything else is just extra stuff that can be added later.

In the 7dots example, we’re focusing on offering the easiest system for managing your usernames and passwords. We could manage other pieces of information but that’s not the point. It takes much longer to think about all the other stuff you could use this system for.

So Feb 2006 is coming fast but we’re ready for it. You’ll start seeing some changes toward the end of January on the site and an awesome logo toward the first of Feb to help unvail the application.

Feel free to ask questions or offer up concerns/your own ideas for the app. We’re all ears.

Brian Ryckbost Says:

Do you have a privacy policy of some sort? I’m sure you do, but if I am going to be storing my passwords remotely, I’m going to need to be heavily reassured that nothing is going to happen.

Since I do not know how the application works, I’ll assume that it has you enter in usernames and passwords and then write them to a file. If this is similar to the process, are these files encrypted or are there other security measures taken?

Aaron Says:

We’re currently working out all the privacy policy information and security details. A group of us are getting together tonight to work through that.

That said - nothing will be saved to files. Everything will be in a database and encrypted from the data level. Not even the 7dots team will be able to figure out your information.

As for other encryption details - we’re spending quite a bit of time in this area as it is a huge concern for us.

Ah, I see. Yes, databases seem to make more sense. Good luck with everything!
