Comcast Sucks - Bandwidth Testing

Almost a year ago when Jodi and I moved into our house on Ardmore St. the first thing I did was order broadband internet. I even made the call before taking care of garbage pickup and switching over our mail to the new house.

I ended up going with Comcast because they had some good rates and offered more bandwidth to their users than anyone else (at the time).

Over the past 4 months however there service has gone way down hill. At different times during the day the bandwidth availability has been slower than a dial-up connection to only jump way up only a few minutes later. Other times you won’t even be able get online at all.

Here’s an example taken just today. Notice both the date of when the test was done (today) and time in which each was taken.

35.8kbps Bandwidth today at 10:00am

bandwidth speed at 35.8 kbps today at 10am

2551.6kbps Bandwidth today at 10:08am

bandwidth speed at 2551.6 kbps today at 10:08am

As a web developer and lover of almost everything the Internet has to offer, I spend quite a bit of my day online and when a company like Comcast can’t get their act together - it’s time to start looking for someone else.

So who do you use, how much do you pay (if I can ask), and what do you like or don’t like about that company?

I can’t say I disagree with this! Comcast is horrible. Horrible CSR’s, horrible functionality…

I’m not completely fed up yet, but I’m getting there.

Charters been amazingly stable and fast. The bill tabs in at $100.00 a month but that’s for digital tv cable service as well.

No down time ever , and not lulls in speed.

If your not on the north side of town availability probably is an issue.

I use comcast - on the trial fee.

1458.7 Kbps - You
2:02 pm.

Of course, I don’t think there are as many people in my neighborhood on Cable Inet as there are in some areas, and I think that affects cable speed.

Also noted: I don’t put much faith in bandwith meters

Dan - I had Charter when I lived on the North side and it was great so I know what you’re talking about. Maybe I’ll give them a call.

Bill - Yea, I understand your faith in bandwidth meters but they’re something to get the conversation started. It’s pretty consistant with how slow or fast it is on my end.

I use Comcast now because I wanted the speed, and for me it’s still faster than DSL.

However, I used to have Speakeasy, and their tech support ROCKS.

If you can afford it, they offer 6M down, and since it’s DSL, it’s solid. AND they’ll give you DSL without having an existing phone account with someone.

Yeah! Comcast is so busy making lame commercials ,COMCASTIC!!!!!! That they seem to only be looking for new business and not be taking care of the customer base they have! These only add insult to injury.DSL is on the way here @ $14.99 a month i will purchase it. Comcast is full of it.
