Hungry? Try something del.icio.us

When I was first introduced to del.icio.us I didn’t take a good look at it. In fact, I didn’t get why people liked using it so much. So much in fact that it became somewhat of a following by thousands of people and talked about by even more.

What is del.icio.us all about? del.icio.us is a social bookmarks manager. It allows you to easily add sites you like to your personal collection of links, to categorize those sites with keywords, and to share your collection not only between your own browsers and machines, but also with others.

This weekend however (almost a year after first hearing about it) I finally decided to take a real look at what it was all about. It only took me a minute to figure out and become another del.icio.us fanatic and create my own list.

I think the thing that made it click for me this weekend was when I had a rather large text file open - all filled with links to sites I wanted to email out to people later. I read a lot about a variety of different things and I like to share what I learn with others.

So now, instead of keeping a large text file and emailing that out to friends every week, I can keep that list online for them to read as well as others. I can also use it to archive links that I want to read later or look up months from now when talking with someone about something.

My advise to all those out there is - Don’t let the interface freak you out. Take a moment to read the text and think about what it can do for you and others around you.
