A co-worker told me earlier today that the phone companies are releasing cell phone numbers to the telemarketing companies next week. If you don’t want to be bugged by a bunch of aluminum siding salesmen, you can call this number (from you cell phone) or go online to DoNotCall.gov and your number will be put on a “Do Not Call List”.
Phone Number: 1-888-382-1222
I called earlier today and was told that my phone number was going to be listed within a few hours. However, it will not take affect for another three months. That said - If you get a call in three months, grab the companies name and phone number and you can easily press charges.

On a weekend in Holland, MI, after you’ve finished all your chores and reading for a few hours, you start trying to find things to do. Staying in the house is getting a tad boring and you just want to find something new and entertaining for a few hours.
The problem with Holland is that there really isn’t anything to do unless you’re hungry, want to grab a drink, or want to watch a movie. There’s no place (that I can think of) that allows you to do something without having to do the previously mentioned things.
This is one of the reasons why Governor Granholm kicked-off the Cool Cities initiative in June, 2003 throughout the state. That being a great idea - Holland hasn’t seen much “coolness” other than a few new restaurant.
The problem is also - I have no idea what I want to do. During the summer months there is quite a bit more to do; due to the warmer weather. Once the winter months come along it’s a bigger challange to find alternative activities.
When in Chicago, there always seems like something is going on (as I’m sure in other bigger cities). If you don’t feel like going to a dance club or grabbing a bite to eat, you can check out a few awesome museums or wander around to a few open galleries. In Holland you simply don’t have those kinds of options.
Meanwhile, I’m stuck sitting in side going back and forth with my wife about different things we might be able to do. So far the best option is to go hang out at Barnes & Nobles.
Something has to be happening in Holland - I just can’t seem to find it and driving around doesn’t seem to help me find anything other than where the closest gas station is.
It’s frusterating - I need something. I’m close to calling in sick for work and going to a bigger city to get my kicks.

With a few days off from work I decided to get a couple things done around here - while I had the time. The obvious changes are to the site design. I was beginning to get rather discussed with the old masthead and with a little encourangement to change from my wife, I came up with the current masthead.
What’s interesting about this particular masthead is that it’s actually a picture of our kitchen. Ok - I know, it seems a little hard to believe but take a look at this picture in my photo gallery. Now look at the different hues of red, yellow, white and brown. If you take all those colors, bring them into PhotoShop and mash them all together - you’ll get my masthead.
On a side note. I went through a few revisions of this masthead (simple as it may seem). I origionally designed this one but after I placed it into the website, it didn’t make anything come to life. So I started working on it again.
Adhering to Style
After that was done I began to play with theParagon brand/style. You may not have realized it, but I do have a style and like sticking to it. This is where the small URL address came along with the simple leaf. The leaf represents Thanksgiving and all those leaves I raked up last week.
Once I got all that worked out, I began playing around a bit with everything else. Very small details in most cases but there is change.
Better Search Engine
Another change is to my Search Page. For I don’t know how long, its been completely unstyled and I hated it, but never had time to change it. I’m happy to say the Search page is finished and kindly showing results not only within the Paragon site, but also other sites within theParagon Network.
So there you have it - A new design; kind of.

For the first part of the event we’ve been talking about what our favorite Firefox feature is. We’ll keep things updated as the night goes along.
- Aaron Schaap said - Developer Extention
- Paul Hart said - Web Developer Kit (CSS Editor)
- Brian Haskin said - Flashblock
- Mike Seeber said - Tab Browsing
- Matt Propst said - Find as you type
Later that night
After grabbing some food at Bobarino, we headed down to the main floor level of the Bob and hung out in some leather couches and chairs.
While we were talking about geeky things and the Firefox College Rep Program, I decided to pull out my laptop and play around for a little bit. A couple minutes later I ended up getting into theBOB’s network and poking around.
Let me just say this to everyone reading - When you get a new computer (or even an old one), change the default Windows username login. I’ve gotten into more personal/company networks because someone keep the default username as Administration and no password.
After that happened we kind of talked a bit about security and around 10:30pm we all decided to call it a night. It was a great night and I want to thank all of those for the fun night.
Photos are up
Thanks to Paul Hart for taking the photos and getting them over to me. Take a look at what all went on.

For the past few days I’ve been transfering information from my old iMac G4 to my PowerBook G4 laptop. Everything went smoothly until it came time to transfer my iPhoto images over.
Normally this is pretty simple but what I wanted to do was merge the Library of one computer in with the one on my laptop.
To be honest, I couldn’t figure out how to do it (if you know please let me know how). However, I did figure out how to have multiple iPhoto Libraries and how to switch back and forth between them.
I’m mostly posting this here so I won’t forget how to do this later, but for those of you that use iPhoto - you might like this.
Moving the iPhoto Library folder to a new location
The iPhoto Library folder, located in your Pictures folder, contains photos you have imported into your photo library and any albums you’ve created using iPhoto.
IMPORTANT: If you move, delete, rename, or otherwise tamper with files or folders in the iPhoto Library folder, you may be unable to see your pictures in iPhoto.
To move the iPhoto Library folder to a new location:
- Quit iPhoto.
- Move your current library to a new location on your hard disk.
- Open iPhoto.
- Click Find Library.
- Select the library and click Open.
Note: This all was located within the iPhoto Help area under “about the iphoto library folder” - It just took me awhile to find it.
