When a man loves a woman

It’s something that every newly wed ends up talking about sooner or later and decides or plans on when they would really like to have a baby. Some people end up waiting for a couple years while others - it’s the first thing they do.

Jodi and I had actually planned on holding off for a couple years but as life will have it - it’s happening a little sooner than we’ve planned.

We’re having a baby!!!!

We found out a bout a month ago and have tried to keep it a secret for as long as possible but you know what? It’s frigg’in hard to not tell a soul. So we’re throwing it to the wind and letting the world know.

How we found out
Jodi was curious and decided to get a pregnancy test to ease her concerns. The only thing was - we were on a small vacation with her whole family in Brooklyn, Michigan at the Michigan International Speedway. (OFF-TOPIC a sec) Wayne and Kathy (Jodi’s Parents) had bought tickets for all of us guys in the family to be trained and then placed on the racing track. Yea, we got to drive our own race cars around the track 8 times at 145 miles per hour. It was insane.

Ok now back to the story - so we were on vacation and Jodi didn’t want to just go pick up a test so she asked her sister to pick it up for her. Her sister already had a baby and it would have seemed less obvious for her to pick up a pregnancy test.

So while all the girls were out shopping her sister picked up a test and Kathy asked why Jill was getting a pregnancy test - “Are you expecting again?” she asked with somewhat of a suprise.

Jill had no idea what to say because she was really getting it for Jodi so she quickly came up with - “I don’t know, I just have to take one every month to make sure.”. Meanwhile Jodi is snickering inside at all of this.

Long story short - Jodi ended up taking the test and no magic line came up that says your pregnant. Somewhat disappointed we were also relieved. We then talked about waiting for awhile before actually trying for kids.

About 20 minutes later were getting ready to go out and we went to throw away the test when all of the sudden I look and say - “What the hell is that line doing there?”

The line means we’re pregnant - we just hadn’t waited long enough earlier to get the results. We’re really going to have a baby!

At this point Jodi is giggling like a school girl and I begin my 2 day freak out of the realness of what it means to have a baby. I’m talking the classic husband response of “MONEY”.

I was happy but to be honest - I was more concerned with the details.

Jodi and I ended up running around and telling her family and they of course were freaking out in joy. Her parents were very excited and her mom laughed about the earlier experience of her other daughter buying a pregnancy test at the store.

So I’m now going to be a dad and it hasn’t quite hit me yet. I am however reading quite a bit about the whole process and extremely happy that I am not the person having to carry it or delivering it.

None the less - we are both very excited and happy to be bringing life into the world. I’ll be updating quite a bit (hopefully) about the whole process so feel free to jump in with any advise you may have. More than likely I’ll hear what anyone says a million times but it’s all in good spirit.

Congratulations!

No kids here, so the only advice I can think of ( not that you need it ) is to remember what it was like being a kid .. especially the perspective of not thinking your parents understand you at all.

Remember all those days I convinced you to skate instead of doing school work ? Your parents weren’t happy but your bio 540’s got you a hell of alot further then solving improper fractions ever will.

In all seriousness , congratulations to both of you.

Good advise and you’re right - my BIO 540’s was a much better investment than solving improper fractions. ;-)

Hey Aaron, congratulations!

Try not to worry about the money yet, there will be plenty of time for that later. Besides, kids need love more than anything and I am sure you guys can provide lots of that.

Have any names picked out yet? :-)

WAY To GO Aaron and Jodi. I’m super excited for the two of you. You know there is a good chance your baby will share the same birth month with awesome people such as myself. We will have to keep our fingers crossed on that one.
Blessings to both of you. WOW.

Mrs Schaap with baby schaap en route Says:

Hello all,

Now how about the real story of all this … true to form, I am pregnant. Also true to form, I’m extactic. As Aaron would have you believe that we wanted to wait to have kids, he’s correct on saying that - however, this pregnancy is in no way an oops or a side step on a five-year plan. We weren’t very strict on NOT trying to have kids, and even though this isn’t planned as some would call it … it’s definitely not unplanned.

So I guess thats all I wanted to set straight. I have to keep Aaron in line sometimes.

:)
