Late Sunday Night

At 1:28am, I should be in bed resting for a full day of work that is coming. Instead, I’m sitting on the couch watching The Negotiator on TBS and reading how easy it is to hack Gmail.

So why am I wide awake watching movies? It all started with a big meal and my normal Sunday afternoon nap. This nap however seemed to go longer than planned and the normal one hour turned into a couple. Now I’m forced to wait until the sandman creeps back and gives me the gift of sleep.

If you’re up and looking for something to do - give me an AIM and maybe we can go to Denny’s for a cup of coco.

House Snapshots

The other day while catching up on a couple of my buddies sites, I noticed that Rob Walcott had a great idea to fill a rather large (empty) wall in his parents house with a picture of their house.

He took a bunch of single pictures of the front of their house and stitched them together to make a nice panarama style look. Of course it looked great and made me want to do the same thing. So today after mowing the lawn and having some pork chops on the grill with the wife - I pulled the ol’ tripod out and strapped the camera on.

I decided to take a few different angles of the house and stitched those together as well. Not only was this a fun little project that gets you out of the house but it’s a great way to capture your first house for later viewing.

If you get a chance to take some pictures of your house, let me know. I’m possibly thinking about doing this to the inside of my house and my work area. Just a cool way to show everyone where you spend so many hours of your day.

I’ll bet you a dollar

Every year it seems like the group of guys I hang out with comes up with a different theme to revolve ourselves around. One year it was the year of the Patriot. For those that don’t know what that is I’m not going to explain it. For those that do - I’m sorry I brought it up again.

Another year was claimed as the year of creep because we seemed to be in creepy situations more than we would have liked. Later we had a year of sudo-suave, the year of adventure and many others that would take me much to long to explain.

Each year a new theme seems to magically pop-up and there is nothing we can do about it. We of course don’t plan our themes - they just arise out of what we are all doing over and over.

This year has been the “I’ll bet you a dollar” theme. To be honest I’m not really sure how it started but it happened pretty quick. Every little detail in each of our lives seems to be the source of a dollar bet.

When a bunch of us went to visit a buddy at U of M the other week - we got caught up in betting who could do a longer hand stand. I’m happy to say I won that bet and came out of it with a couple bucks.

We’ll also bet on if our friend will politely pull out the chair for his girlfriend at Russ’ Restaurant and we’ll even bet on the fact that no bets will be made by other guys for at least an hour.

As you can see it’s a lot of fun but it sometimes gets hard to keep track of all the betting going on. That is until I found the site DozenHoles.com that allows you to keep track of bets with your friends.

It’s free to sign up and you don’t have to bet money. You can bet a variety of things from - “You owe me a dozen donuts.” to “You have to run naked down the street for a quarter of a mile”.

As you can see - this is a great resource and I’m looking forward to keeping up to date with all the betting that will be taking place over the span of 2004.

Let the betting begin.

Open Letter to SVN

SVN creators, Sorry if this is the wrong place to bring up this issue but it’s been bugging me for months.

Your RSS feed only shows a couple lines out of each post on your website - but I never know if it’s the full post or part of a post. You never have a “Continue Reading” or “….” that let’s people know more content is available.

I read a lot of blogs online and it’s hard jumping back and forth and trying to remember, “Are they the people that post everything in their RSS feed or are they the people that only do a small bit”.

Often times I only read the beginning of a post and end up later realizing (via another website) that you had much more to say and I just didn’t read your whole post.

You guys have great content and great work but if you could change this I’m sure I’m not the only one that is annoyed by this.

Update:

Thinking back - I thought you had a button on your site that said, “XML FULL POSTS”. I checked and you in fact do. Why doesn’t that have your full posts?

Computers vs Paper

Being a person that spends most of his time on the computer, one would assume that I also organize my complete life on my computer. Everything from personal finances down to daily notes and thoughts.

For the most part - this is true. I do all my banking and payments online, organize various reports via QuickBooks, keep all client information in extremely organized files. My emails are all organized (discussed before) and my Calendar and daily task are done via iCal.

But every once in awhile I get bored with the computer and all of its bells and whistle. At those times, I’ll dust off my notepad and begin organizing information through my pen and onto paper. It’s oddly a great feeling and makes you feel like a real person with an actual life.

I can see how keeping things on a computer is better and in many cases, quicker - however, you can’t replace the old fashion feeling of lined paper.

So this past week I’ve been organizing my life via a notepad and using my computer for backup. The only thing I’ve noticed is how quickly my hand gets tired. I also realized that I can type rather fast and having to write takes me time (which isn’t an all bad thing).
