For those that are interested, Elevator Up has put together a new section called LAB. One of the LAB projects (Project 2) is to start a group called “g33ks”.

g33ks is being formed for the West Michigan computer folks. A place and group where people can get together and just have fun. I’d love for you all to make it so please sign up and tell anyone you know that might be interested in this.

Switching Servers & CMS

I’ve had this blog for a couple years now and it’s been sitting quite nicely on Hurricane Electric’s servers. Recently however I decided to purchase a Linux Server and host all my sites on that. The advantages are huge and having complete control of my server is something every developer needs and loves.

As with the purchase of a new server you then have to move information and websites over to it. Many of my sites have already been moved over, along with many of my clients. One of the last couple sites to do is my very first one - theParagon.ORG.

I’ll be working on this over the next couple weeks and setting up a new CMS (Content Management System) to handle all of my content. I’ve been wanting to make a couple changes anyway and figure now is the best time to do it.

So, you’ll more than likely find a couple things broken here and there over the next few weeks but soon enough I’ll have everything working again and a new design to play with.

Summer Picture Deals

Every once in awhile you’ll find a good deal and want to share it with everyone you know. It just so happens the good deal that I’ve come across is being offered by my good friend - Rob Walcott of Walcott Imaging.

Here’s what Rob announced just today and my suggestion is to pounce on it.

As most of you know, In the past year Rob Walcott has slowly been developing Walcott Imaging. I thank you for your many compliments and much support as I have been getting started.

As I am getting ready to kick off the Spring/Summer season I have developed a new proof book that I hope to offer to my clients, however before introducing it I would like to try it out on a few clients to get their reaction. For this reason, and for a limited time, I am now offering a free session with the purchase of a proof book. (individuals, families, kids, engagement pictures…).

Each client will receive a small scrap book of 15+ prints that are theirs to keep and a free sitting, all for only $35. The client is not obligated to buy any prints. Please tell your friends and families about this deal.
Thank you, Rob Walcott.

Why this is Good?

This is great for the obvious Senior pictures and Family portraits but think of all the other options. If you’re trying to get a job, it’s good to have a professional picture to show any potential employer the professional you. This will defiantly set you apart from the hundreds of other applicants that your potential boss is looking over.

If you’re getting engaged or just got married, this is a great gift to show your special someone that you want to be captured in a moment for everyone to see.

You could also send out some long overdue family cards to friends and family to show then that you all are indeed, still alive and doing well.

The other thing that comes to mind is just plain self-glorification. Just get some good pictures taken to make yourself feel good. We’ve all had horribly awful pictures take of us - now is your chance to get your true beautiful self captured on film.

Installing things on a Mac

I’ve been receiving various calls from new Mac users because they can’t quite figure out how to install software. It’s usually one of the easiest things and you’re used to just pressing the next button but on a Mac, there’s one thing most people get confused on when it happens the first time.

With these questions, I’ve decided to post a quick explaination on what’s going on in hopes that it will help someone else out.

Here’s what is happening:

You pop in the CD and you click on the icon to install the software, when all of the sudden a window pops up and asks you to enter in a username and password. Without much thought you put in the Serial Number that was given to you but that doesn’t work.

The username and password you are being asked for is your computer username and password. If this is your computer then you’ll need to put in the username and password you set your computer up with. If it’s a computer that a lot of people use and someone else administrators it, then you’ll have to get the administrator of that computer to type in his username and password.

The reason this is happening is because Mac’s require only administrators to install software. Now you might remember before when you installed some software and it didn’t ask you for a username and password - this is because not all packaged software requires certain things to be placed in certain folders. If a piece of software needs to put a couple things throughout your computer, it will say; “Whoa, I need to get permission from my owner before I can let you do that!”.

So try installing the software again but this time put in the username and password of the computer and then everything will work fine.

the HUDF

a look of deep space

Astronomers at the Space Telescope Science Institute today unveiled the deepest portrait of the visible universe ever achieved by humankind. Called the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF), the million-second-long exposure reveals the first galaxies to emerge from the so-called dark ages, the time shortly after the big bang when the first stars reheated the cold, dark universe.
