Web to Print
We’ve seen a lot of Print to Web (very familiar to newspapers) but the idea of going from Web to Print is something I personally haven’t seen all that much of.
Andy Arikawa from www.modulo26.net has just put together a great idea that is coming together at www.designinflight.com.
The idea:If we were to take this a step further - I’m curious on the revenue aspects of this from the newspaper side.“Design In-Flight is a new PDF magazine targeted to graphic design professionals and web developers. Design In-Flight strives to both educate and entertain and is recommended reading for anyone currently involved in ñ or looking to enter ñ graphic design, web design and web development.”
An Idea
If we were to just take a look at newspaper calendars. We could offer (for free) a printable Calendar of each months events. Not only are people able to use the calendar for keeping their own schedules, they also have everything that’s going on in the community that is already there. From the bigger picture, you could offer people a downloadable version of a newspaper (paid) so they can print it all off. A lot of people would love this in the Holland, Michigan area. People love sitting on their couch and reading something but don’t always want a full subscription.
In our area we also have a lot of older people taking off to Florida and Texas for the winter months. For us to deliver a paper to them each day would be rather costly. Why not offer a paid download for them in their Florida condo? True, they can get it online but only because that’s the only option they have. Many would rather sit on a sunny beach and read about their grandkids sports games and engagements.
Has anyone played with this idea or even come up with a working solution? If so, what have you been thinking?
