Bush in 30 Seconds

If you were to bump into me on the street and ask what my political views are or my thoughts on how the United States President is doing, I wouldn’t know where to begin. Not because I have that much to say - I don’t have anything to say at all.

Politics for some reason really bore me but the idea of them really excite me, if that makes sense. I really wish I knew what was going on and understood the many, many things going on around me to offer opinions to those that asked.

Every year I tell myself that I’m going to learn a little bit more about what’s going on and start understanding the issues, because I believe there just that - issues. Some very serious.

Being such an unpolitical person - My eye was caught by a political advertising contest going on at bushin30seconds.org. The idea is to develop a 30 second ad that tells the truth about George W. Bush. Today they posted the 15 finalists for “Bush in 30 Seconds” and to be honest - they’re really good. They get their message across and have a lot of easy to read information on their message and what to do.

Now remember what I said earlier about not having any clue on this type of stuff? Well, that’s still the case but this site is definitely helping understand one side. What I would really like to see is a site just as creative, but for the opposing side (for Bush). If politicians put information together in this manner - people would be better educated and you would more than likely see more voters.

I don’t think I can agree with anything that tries to sum up something so complicated in 30 seconds. I am going to cast a big NO vote for this idea… The only thing you can do well in 30 seconds is impose an idea. After watching the ad’s ( or info-mercials) about bush you are as well informed about politics as you are informed about nutrition after watching a burger king commercial.

I am also going to say that - though I rarely see myself on the same “side” as the our president, he is still our president. Calling the president an F-ing idiot is not except able.

No one is trying to sum up everything into 30 seconds they’re doing just like you said below - imposing an idea.

As they noted on their Rules and Guidelines page:

“we’re looking for really creative ads that will engage and enlighten viewers and help them understand the truth about George Bush.”
What you will quickly notice is that they are simply trying to engage, enlighten and help people. Nowhere in there did I see a reference to condensing everything Bush stood for into 30 seconds.

The idea of this is good and it dose pirk people’s interest. Most people in America are braindead to what’s going on around them and like to simply follow along with what ever is mainstream. Simply little messages help in some cases to break this mold and remind people that there is always a second side to everything.

As for me - I never said I now have a stronger sense of the overall Bush because of these 30 second ads, but I said they gave me some great places to start. Feel free to look at their About Page and take a read. They point to various extra reading on various different issues. This helps people to find out more.

So the idea is a good one.
