If 2 Worlds Collided - Would they know?
So I’m sitting at Panera Bread and discussing design with my good friend Rob Walcott (also Photographer for hire) and we find out that there is a band called “the gray line”. Not really a problem but they also have a website that is rather close to the name of another band we know that has recently changed their name to “the grEy line”.
Everything related to likemindedmusic.com and thegreyline.com are currently propagating over the magical world wide web (with a little direction from me) and only now does the question come up - “What about these 2 bands?”
From the looks of it - Band A (the grAy line) has been around since April of 2000, where as Band B (the grEy line) has been around no more than a couple months before that same date.
The more important question arises however - “Who’s promoting who?”
With the amount of Americans that currently rely on Spell check (myself included) to help them effectively communicate and navigate the web - odds are pretty close to 50-50 percent that fans from both bands will find themselves confused or blindly following the wrong band and their website.
This may be avoided with some creative marketing but even with that - word of mount plays a huge role in the tip of the tongue society we live in today. Johnny tells Mark and Mark talks about it with a group of his buddies. Everyone catches wind of this exciting music and of course can check a website for more information - www.thegr*yline.com.
It’s going to be interesting to see if a fight breaks out between either band or possibly legal action on the matters of registered branding. Right now I’m just sitting in my chair and watching the world spin around me - of course with a slight focus on the new chain of events.
