New Job Offering

When you’re young and have lots of energy and even more ideas you tend to find yourself looking for that one company that recogizes your potential. The other day I got a call from the Florida Times-Union in Jacksoneville, FL asking if I would like to come work for them. They had heard good reviews of my work from people at Morris Digital Works and had taken a liking to things I have produced.

First things first - I was flattered to be offered a job without even applying for one. On top of that it sounds like something that I would really have fun doing and could be quite possibly good at it. Along side all this it would be in Flordia and this young 22 year old might actually have a ticket to get out of Holland, Michigan.

However - with every pro there’s a con. It’s not just me that I have to think about anymore and decisions aren’t made up just on my own. I’m getting married in August and have recently purchased a home by Lake Michigan.

If we were to move I would be leaving my family here but harder yet - Jodi would be leaving her family and friends here as well. This is sometimes hard when so many things are already changing and you’re trying to find your way on lifes new path.

There’s a lot to think about and prayers to be lifted up.

This is all still very exciting and being flown out to Jacksonville, FL to see the (potential) new office, town and people to help make the decision was a nice cherry on the top of the treat.

The Job - Web Developer\Designer

We are looking for a lead website developer to join our New Media team. Individual needs to have HTML, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, XML, Quark, ASP, PHP, Perl, MTL, JavaScript, FTP, PhotoShop and graphic design skills. The ideal candidate will be a college graduate with the perfect blend of potential and experience.

This is an excellent opportunity to work and learn in a fast-paced environment, using

cutting-edge Internet technologies, including e-commerce, streaming media, dynamic publishing, and database manipulation. Strong oral and verbal communication skills a must. Minimum of 3 years experience required. Experienced team players only need apply. Certification a definite plus.

So the question arises on whether I should take the job or not. Whereas the final decision will be done by Jodi and myself, any of your opinions would greatly help the considering process we will be going through.

So what do that think?

The deep south is a different world - some like it and some hate it. You can live with anything for awhile - if the job and people are something you want to do and it pays well enough, Jodi could probably get a realtor’s license and perform her job there as well. The experience may very well be worth the discovery. Be prepared for hot and humid and an occassional hurricane. Also, it’s a long way to snow, if you want it for any reason. If you looked, you could probably find a job almost anywhere. Moving away is a big step, but sometimes it is the only way to open up opportunities and to broaden your view of the real world.

Moving from Michigan to Florida is like upgrading from your p2 to a p3. you need an AMD Opteron my friend. Not that I’m one to talk…

its hard to think about moving to florida because whats the first thing that comes to mind? weather. i know it sounds tempting. but you gotta think about everything. such as do you love your job now? if you dont. will you love what you do there? is this what you want to do for your entire life? or is it a call to get out of michigan. there are several factors i would look at. dont go running out of here unless you plan on staying there forever…

we wont be so accepting when you come back. just kidding :)
