Classmates.com

Working with the Internet as much as I do you’d assume that I’ve tried almost every Internet site out there. Well, at least all the major ones, right? Actually no. There’s quite a bit going on out there on the WWW and many things I just familiarize myself with but never join.

Classmates.com is one of those sites that I’ve seen grow from the beginning. It’s also another one of those popular websites that I think is a good idea but never end up joining. Ebay.com has also been another one of those sites. Great concept but just don’t really have a need to use it.

Today I ventured into Classmates.com just to see what all the fuss was about. I picked Holland Christian as my school because I had the most friends there, I dated girls there, I knew some of the teachers, I snuck into some of the classes, and for a kid that was homeschooled - I practically went to Holland Christian.

First reaction was that the site was somewhat confusing and they seemed to have a lot of junk slapped into little area. After submitting more questions than a US terrorist would probably ever have to answer - I finally got my profile setup.

It was nice to see that almost all my buddies had already spent the time adding themselves the growing list but I didn’t like not being able to see all their information. Classmates.com is really good about giving you just enough information to play with for free. Once you find yourself sifting through the names and yearning for more detail on your buddy, they slap that $36US/year price tag on everything.

Of course you can’t justify spending that money just to find out how much other classmates make or if they have any pets. Can you?

After considering the amount for a bit I decided to keep my credit card in my wallet. That’s not to say I don’t want to see that information. I figure I can just ask most of my friends what they put in when we hang out this summer.

All in all I like Classmates.com (dispite it’s banner ad feeling) and see myself sadly pulling out the plastic to see who’s married and who’s still single in a couple years.

classmates.com is odd. im sure you pay the $36 to be the Ultra Super Powerful Gold Member. But then what do you get to do? Email people from your school. In this town it isnt hard to run into the person, or someone who knows them. And get into contact with them that way. I just think its one of those sites with a great concept. But needs a little more evolvement.

$36 to see who’s married, that can’t be justified in our budget … nope, I’m sorry … we’re going to have to rely on the good ol’ Holland Sentinel.

Russ - we’re getting married on August 30th at the Fish and Game club. Actually it’s going to be outside in their fields. Afterwards we’re going to have a huge pig roast.
