When you’re young and have lots of energy and even more ideas you tend to find yourself looking for that one company that recogizes your potential. The other day I got a call from the Florida Times-Union in Jacksoneville, FL asking if I would like to come work for them. They had heard good reviews of my work from people at Morris Digital Works and had taken a liking to things I have produced.
First things first - I was flattered to be offered a job without even applying for one. On top of that it sounds like something that I would really have fun doing and could be quite possibly good at it. Along side all this it would be in Flordia and this young 22 year old might actually have a ticket to get out of Holland, Michigan.
However - with every pro there’s a con. It’s not just me that I have to think about anymore and decisions aren’t made up just on my own. I’m getting married in August and have recently purchased a home by Lake Michigan.
If we were to move I would be leaving my family here but harder yet - Jodi would be leaving her family and friends here as well. This is sometimes hard when so many things are already changing and you’re trying to find your way on lifes new path.
There’s a lot to think about and prayers to be lifted up.
This is all still very exciting and being flown out to Jacksonville, FL to see the (potential) new office, town and people to help make the decision was a nice cherry on the top of the treat.
The Job - Web Developer\Designer
We are looking for a lead website developer to join our New Media team. Individual needs to have HTML, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, XML, Quark, ASP, PHP, Perl, MTL, JavaScript, FTP, PhotoShop and graphic design skills. The ideal candidate will be a college graduate with the perfect blend of potential and experience.
This is an excellent opportunity to work and learn in a fast-paced environment, using
cutting-edge Internet technologies, including e-commerce, streaming media, dynamic publishing, and database manipulation. Strong oral and verbal communication skills a must. Minimum of 3 years experience required. Experienced team players only need apply. Certification a definite plus.
So the question arises on whether I should take the job or not. Whereas the final decision will be done by Jodi and myself, any of your opinions would greatly help the considering process we will be going through.
So what do that think?

It feels good to be home and able to sleep in my own bed again. After staying up all night trying to hop trains, play soccer with 50 people at 3am, sleeping in a yurt and sitting through a couple hours of celebration boringness - I’m spent.
Honestly the graduation was better than others I’ve been too. Ravi Zacharias deliver an amazing commencement address to over 444 Taylor graduates and we all got some good sun while listening.
Not much later after Zacharias’s speech were we taking down the yurt and getting a sunburn on our noses and cheeks. The Memorial weekend has been fun so far but I still have today to mess around and finish up all those projects that I’ve been putting off for so long. (i.e. configuring my Apache on my MAC, mowing the lawn, watching Down with Love, etc…)

The other day I got an email from the owner of Sitecubed.com asking if they could reprint my recent article written on evolt.org.
Later that day I sent them my approval along with my bio. A day or so down the road I checked the site out and it was posted. Along with that - I’m now the very first author on the authors page.
On a personal note:
I found it pretty cool that someone thought enough of my article to reprint it elsewhere in the world.

Working with the Internet as much as I do you’d assume that I’ve tried almost every Internet site out there. Well, at least all the major ones, right? Actually no. There’s quite a bit going on out there on the WWW and many things I just familiarize myself with but never join.
Classmates.com is one of those sites that I’ve seen grow from the beginning. It’s also another one of those popular websites that I think is a good idea but never end up joining. Ebay.com has also been another one of those sites. Great concept but just don’t really have a need to use it.
Today I ventured into Classmates.com just to see what all the fuss was about. I picked Holland Christian as my school because I had the most friends there, I dated girls there, I knew some of the teachers, I snuck into some of the classes, and for a kid that was homeschooled - I practically went to Holland Christian.
First reaction was that the site was somewhat confusing and they seemed to have a lot of junk slapped into little area. After submitting more questions than a US terrorist would probably ever have to answer - I finally got my profile setup.
It was nice to see that almost all my buddies had already spent the time adding themselves the growing list but I didn’t like not being able to see all their information. Classmates.com is really good about giving you just enough information to play with for free. Once you find yourself sifting through the names and yearning for more detail on your buddy, they slap that $36US/year price tag on everything.
Of course you can’t justify spending that money just to find out how much other classmates make or if they have any pets. Can you?
After considering the amount for a bit I decided to keep my credit card in my wallet. That’s not to say I don’t want to see that information. I figure I can just ask most of my friends what they put in when we hang out this summer.
All in all I like Classmates.com (dispite it’s banner ad feeling) and see myself sadly pulling out the plastic to see who’s married and who’s still single in a couple years.

It’s a Monday night and I’m home alone. T.J. (one of my roommates) just left for a job in New Mexico and David (the other roommate) is in Turkey for the next three weeks. What’s a guy to do without his buddies?
Normally on a night like this we would all wander down to the local coffee shop and poke fun of our roommate T.J. for his infatuation in the American Idol show. All the while sipping enough coffee to submerge a small country.
To further the nights sorrow - I just got back from playing softball and we lost. Not just lost - but embarrassed ourselves. The score was 0-22 and I felt as if I was actually playing for the Detroit Tigers for a good couple innings.
However, the nights coming to a close and after a small bit of folding, vacuuming, and hanging pressed shirts - my room in now clean enough to have people in.
It’s now time to just relax in my favorite chair and pull up a good browser for some casual browsing. I guess the nights not all that bad after all.
