High Prices for Empty Wallets

This weekend I went to see the movie Phone Booth. The 81 minute drama, thriller starring Colin Farrell was a good movie but possibly an even better rental. Not just because of the acting quality but because of the continuously hiked up prices for going to see a movie.

Jodi and I decide to go a bit earlier in the day to avoid the prime time cost and ended up spending $11.00 for the two of us. Honestly, not bad for close to an hour an a half of entertainment.

What really got to me was when the lady at the concession stand told me the medium popcorn and medium drink (either with free refills) was going to cost me $9.00. At that very second I said, “I don’t need any of this stuff anymore” and walked away.

I’m all for some guy making a buck off people watching a movie and grabbing some snacks but it’s got to be within reason. Charging that high of a markup on something they get for less than a quarter a bucket isn’t business - it’s robbery.

What’s even worse is that people pay it. Young & old men look into their date eyes and just open up their wallets. They don’t agree with it but they don’t want to look cheap in front of their lady. For some guy to take advantage of this isn’t ethical.

Foolishly thinking this was just a one time instance I later had to pay $2.00 for a cookie in the mall and $3.00 for a tall (fancy for small) latte at JP’s coffee house. The same tall latte that only cost a person $2.75 a week earlier.

So why am I all of the sudden pissed at a variety of Holland shops? I couldn’t tell you for sure but it has something to do with them taking advantage of a bad economy.

People right now are loosing their jobs left and right and all these people can do is raise their prices. I guess the idea of the community helping each other is an old fashion thought.

… pausing to think of a good closing

I’m just going to lower my head with a slow nodding from left to right.

Aaron-

Wouldn’t it make sense to say that they aren’t “taking advantage of a bad economy”, but “responding to a bad economy”.

I agree though, it’s robbery. Jacking the prices up on a cup of joe, however, would be taking advantage of the rich citizens of holland, not the bad economy.

As I got home to the Double Wide I encountered Aaronís frustration, of which I share. Earlier that day I was pondering the fact that I was in need of a hair cut, but due to the astronomical price of such a service, I had been putting it off. As I talked further with Aaron I became inspired to give myself a hair cut. After struggling in front of the mirror; I decided to hang upside down and cut away. As I came to attend school, a place with high tuition cost, I had many positive comments about my hair. So I encourage all to try something new in order to save a buck and not give in to those who try to take it from us.
