College English

From 6:00 - 10:00 last night I was sitting in a classroom at Davenport University being told that everything I’m currently doing it wrong. Pronouns, Adverbs, Adjectives, Compound Subject - these are words that shouldn’t have meaning. For one thing they have none to me.

My teacher is a petit old lady that wore only black on our first day of class. She seems sweet but with a hard outer shell from years of teaching students that may have taken advantage of her generosity. As for myself, I’m somewhat of a minority in this class. There are people from all different places and many different backgrounds. None are even close to mine - at least not that I could tell from the things I would hear.

I’m somewhat excited about this class because it will force me to learn to write better. I’ll be writing a lot of papers and learning how to use punctuation correctly; something I’ve probably just used incorrectly in this sentence alone.

We’ll see how the semester goes. The hardest part will be relearning all of those English rules I was supposedly suppose to learn in high school. At least that’s what my teacher and my current assignment book assumes.
