Labor Day
_22:11
“Labor Day differs in every essential way from the other holidays of the year in any country,” said Samuel Gompers, founder and longtime president of the American Federation of Labor. “All other holidays are in a more or less degree connected with conflicts and battles of man’s prowess over man, of strife and discord for greed and power, of glories achieved by one nation over another. Labor Day…is devoted to no man, living or dead, to no sect, race, or nation.”
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
So how should we celebrate this?
Most of my Labor Day weekend was spent hanging out with old friends. Many of which came home after a couple days of classes to spend their extended weekend with everyone.
Everything happened from watching movies, crazy parties, sleeping on the beach, and sitting on a couch for hours doing nothing more than looking at the wall - my weekend couldn’t have been structured much better.
Work, however, starts up again tomorrow but with a couple hours left on this holiday, I’m getting ready to end it off with a good book and a early nights rest. The 3 day weekend was badly needed and refreshed me enough to keep my job for yet another week.
So with intense curiosity - what did you end up doing with your Labor Day?
