many websites - quick update

Thursday_23:58

Just wanted to pop in and say Hello to all my readers that have been checking my site and not been able to see anything. My apologies.

Just to give you a small idea of what I’ve been up to - here is a quick glimpse of some of my busy scheduale.

ONE:

I’m just about finished with some consulting work for DSG of Holland. The company hired me to come in and teach some of their employees the basics of web development. The result of their work is the DSG company website. I agree it’s not an award winning design but they did it themselves and are continuing to work on it. I’m proud of them :-)

TWO:

At work we are slowly finishing up a couple big projects. One being an online auction ( like ebay.com but with local products). We’ve been working with a company in Canada for the past couple of weeks and almost ready for everything to go live this Saturday.

The auction can be found at sentinelbid4bargains.com. I hope you stop by and bid on something. We have a Panasonic 47” Diagonal HDTV Monitor Projection TV with a starting bid of $1.00 :-)

THREE:

Also at work we’re trying to revamp our New Media website. It’s a much cleaner look than what we had before and I’m pretty happy with it. Right now I can happily say there are NO tables in the site what-so-ever and 100% compliant with XHTML 1.0 and CSS standards. nmdesigngroup.com

FOUR:

Joshua Outreach Group hired me last week to get a site up by this Friday. With such little time they explained that design was not a main focus but getting actual content online was.

I did my best to throw in a little bit of style but what can you do with such little time. Advertising spots have been placed on TV, radio, and newspaper that will start today. I’m hoping to revisit the site in the next couple of months and develop a complete solution for them. In the mean time I think this will do.

The site can be viewed at http://rain.he.net/~tjog right now but will hopefully be changed to www.tjog.org by the later part of tomorrow. Again, this site should be compliant with XHTML 1.0 and CSS standards :-)

So that in a nutshell is a quick summery of what has been going on. A couple other companies have approached me on doing some development for them and those probably begin at the end of October. In the mean time I have to develop 2 more sites for a teacher and a good look’in realtor.

(…sigh) I may complain a bit about how busy I am but to be honest - I love it!

30 seconds of writing

Sunday_00:30

Below is a writing exercise. The idea is to start writing but you can’t stop for 30 seconds. Sense doesn’t have to be made but consistently typing is. Again - this is just random words that will come out of my mind and may not have any reasoning or logic.

Here it goes:

It’s amazing to me how much impact other people’s words and thoughts have on our lives. In the simple example of this site - I find myself writing much clearer thoughts and feelings when I read/experience various works of others.

I’m able to articulate simple questions with clear messages. “What are you thinking right now?” —

I wish life were more than the normality itís forced onto me. I want to break from this mold of traditionalism and truly experience this gift we are given for such a short time. I want to know the world and what it has to offer. I want to meet the people of it and understand what they think and why they do.

Life without structure and structure without rules, rules without punishments, and punishments without learning. This is not quite what I mean but in some way I do.

If we as humans were created to …. and stop

The idea of this exercise is to just get your thoughts out and onto paper. From there you can organize them and either start again with your mind cleared of everything you don’t want - or taking what you just wrote and organizing it better.

Go ahead, give it a try! If you feel comfortable enough to try, use the comment box below. If you don’t just try it at home. The only trick is to do this once a day. When you become comfortable with 30 seconds try a minute. From there just keep going. Maybe one day you’ll write a novel :-)

Catching up

Tuesday_8:32

Amazing how quickly time fly’s when you’re having ….. wait a minute ….. I’ve been running around work’in like a camel and my weblog hasn’t even had a chance of getting updated.

So many things have happened in the past couple days. The biggest being my woman’s birthday just 2 days ago. Then the amazing FRAY DAY was held over the weekend.

Fray Day was nice but I was really hoping for more people. There was probably between 20-30 people but I guess I was thinking 50-70 would be there and just be telling all kinds of amazing stories.

However the little amount of people we had ended up being pretty good. Some stories did in fact trickle out of the group. One of my favorites came from a guy from davezilla.com. It was about a drunk guy outside his apartment that has become his friend over the while.

The drunk guy would always make up crazy reasons to get money for his habits and it would crack up davezilla. sidenote: yes, I agree it’s sad I don’t know these people’s names and categorize them by their website but that’s just the reality of it all.

Anyways - the whole night was an all around fun night. I’m looking forward to next years Fray Day and hoping to give the oranizing staff alittle help to make it the BEST. We’ll however have to see if that actually happens with my random laziness to complete tasks.

Sept 11 - year anniversary

Wednesday_18:54

September 11 (a.k.a. 911)

It’s hard to imagine that a year ago today, America was turned upside down. Our comfort zones were shattered and our feelings of security, freedom, and confidence left quicker than most of us would ever care to admit.

We experienced so many different emotions but the thing that got me to sit up in my chair was how quickly we as a country came together. People started seeing each other as real human beings and actually started to care how they acted toward one another.

Many of us wanted to help but couldn’t do more than stay home and pray. Others realized how short their lives might really be and started figure out ways to follow childhood dreams.

Where as 9-11 is something I hope we’ll always remember, I hope even more than we see the changes in our lives. Hopefully for the better - though for many it may take some time.

My heart goes out to the people that were directly impacted in this tragedy and my respect to those that worked so hard to help those.

Frustration with corporate

Tuesday_16:44

[rant]

Honestly - If your a support specialist that can program in various languages, is it really that hard to understand XHTML?

And if it isn’t hard to understand XHTML then is it that hard to develop your scripts to export good XHTML code? Shoot - I’ll even be happy if it’s compliant HTML.

Being it that I’m not a hard core programmer I must be missing something. It must just be increably hard to output good code or even understand forward compatability. I mean - god forbid you actually write something that will work in the next couple years.

More than that, it’s probably worse when some kid half your age has to explain the difference between the two.

Every programming language out there has to written to its respected standards. Java, C, C++, PHP, PERL, Python, etc… Why is it that HTML is allowed to be so messy.

[/rant]

Despite the above rant I’m actually having a good day. It’s just frusterating when you have to fight to get things done correctly.
