End times

Monday_20:17

With everything the way it is right now do you ever find yourself wondering if now is really - “The End Times”?

I’ll be the first to admit that it’s gone through my head a couple times since Sept. 11, 2002. Of course on that day almost everyone and their mother had that run through their head at least once.

With Terrorism, Enron, WorldCom, Martha Stewart, the Miners of SOMERSET - Pennsylvania, and now Amtrak’s derailment - it just makes you wonder why things are getting so bad.

I have more in me about the end of the world but this all was my initial thought while looking at cnn.com these past couple days. I don’t normally read cnn.com - maybe I shouldn’t anymore.

Update: 45 minutes later

I just read over my post and thought to myself - people are gonna start thinking I’m really depressed. I’m honestly not at all. I just have to stop posting in the middle of long projects.

Maybe it would be better if I started posting in the mornings. Supposedly it’s the best time to write since you’re still in your dream sense and your adult self hasn’t quite woken up yet. This drastic change in schedule probably means I should get to bed earlier.

Cross your fingers but I wouldn’t suggest holding your breath just yet.

Opinionated Derek Says:

I don’t think that it has anything to do with “end times.” I just think that we’re finally becoming accountable for the sweeping, corrupt misjudgements we’ve allowed those in power to make. I can’t speak for terror or the miners, but the corporate crash and even amtrak derailing (both financially and literally) is the result of lots of economic sidestepping and corner-cutting. Actually, I think that labeling occurrences like those as indicative of a large-scale supernatural intervention is a little irresponsible because it almost seems like we’re blaming very earthly problems on forces we can’t see or influence - effectively wiping our hands of the problems, too.

It’s equally irresponsible to label GOOD things as indicitive of large-scale supernatural intervention, and the religious people do that all the time. Why wouldn’t you do the same here?

I don’t believe that we can look to current events and say, “Oh my, the end of the world is near.” (I mean, you can — because, obviously, the end of the world draws nearer every second.) In I Thessalonians 5:2, Paul says, “For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.” In Mark 13:32, Christ Himself says that even He (at that point) didn’t know when His second coming would occur. We are simply called to live our lives as though these are our very last moments on this earth. We musn’t waste a second.

Just my thoughts for tonight. =) I’m still working them out myself.

In response to JamesI tend not to credit good things as being due to aforementioned spiritual puppeteering. I like to think I make my own good situations happen. Sure, it might explain why good things happen to me with staggering infrequency, but it’s good enough for me.
