Completely broken down
Have you ever been completely broken down? I’m not talking about the times when someone cracked a joke in front of a group of people, making you feel like crawling under a rock. I’m talking about everything you were going for and all your hope’s and dreams being smashed.
I’m a 21 year old male that only works one day a week for a company that has been laying off people left and right. The rest of my time is filled with the illusion of being someone or doing something great for mankind.
I sit on my computer for at least 6+ hours a day and try to be a web developer. I have a problem with working for companies that don’t have passion and simply require their staff to remember one important question when talking with their beloved clients - “Would you like fries with that?”.
I usually wake up around 9am every morning and go to my little office in the basement of a house I don’t own. There I’ll check my email and get rejected by 80% of the poeple I call about a website.
The other 20% is somewhat interested or leads me to believe that they are - getting me excited and doing research on what their company does and how I can help to improve their services through a website. After doing all this and meeting with this 20% about 10% of them actually would like to discuss prices and my phases.
This 10% will talk to me for a couple weeks, leading me to believe they’ll pay me for my services and then one day tell me it’s just not in their budget and all those things they said they would like, just can’t be justified right now in today’s economy.
If that weren’t enough I’m not even going to college. Not because I don’t want to but I just can’t afford it. I constintaly hear of people having their parents pay their way through college or how their rich Uncle just happen to have some money set aside to help.
I hate these people, but what I hate more about them is the fact that they will get a degree and then proceed to go further in life than I ever will - just because they have some ‘in degree.
When I’m not on the computer, wishing I had money to go to college, or calling people who are destine to lead me on - I’m walking somewhere because I don’t even own a car.
And just because so many of you have already pointed out - I’m also a horrible speller.

Add to the discussion.
Hey, as long as you have friends and people who love you, you’re never completely broken down.
When your dreams and asperations are built around money or social status life will never deal you a sense of achievement.
Your alive, breathing, healthy and sane. You have a girlfriend (a cool one at that), friends, 2 legs to walk on, food, shelter and god knows how many computers.
The statistics would show your better off than 80% (roughly) of the worlds population.
Instead of complaining about your situation all the time, you need to do something about it. Find a job, any job and get yourself out of the situation you are in, and once you get there then do what you really want to do. Honestly, it is pretty sad that a 21 year old doesn’t even have a car and has to walk everywhere. Those who never take action, never get anywhere in life, and that is the sad and honest truth. The key is MOTIVATION and DETERMINATION!!
What’s sad is that you think someone needs to have a car to be something! You my friend are one of the people in this world that make this poor boy (and the rest of us) feel as if social status or a job or material objects are necessary in order for us to feel contempt.
No, I am the one who has a sense of reality. Social status aside….having a job and some sort of transportation is a necessity in this society weather you want to admit it or not. It can be done…trust me. One can work and go to school, and have a car all at the same time and still lead a normal life. There is such thing as student loans, financial aid. So you can never say that it isn’t possible. Until you stop making excuses you aren’t going to get anywhere.

What the hell are you talking about - My post didn’t say anything about me not taking action or not having motivation or determination.
If you read it again you’ll notice that I repeatably wake up every morning and call companies about a web services. In fact just today (3-04-02) I got a freelance job and even got paid up front for alot of work. Why? Not because I just gave up after a couple weeks when things weren’t going good - but because I stuck with it even when it wasn’t going good.
And another thing - you say I need to stop complaining and just get any job to get my out of this situation.
Getting any random job wouldn’t get me out of the situation, because I wouldn’t be working in web development. As I also said in paragraph 3 ….(gah you can read it again)
I’m sorry but you didn’t help whatsoever - “The way to move a horse isn’t to beat him and yell at him, but to be gentle and let him trust you - then he will follow you and listen to what you have to say.”
TRY IT SOMETIME.
Dan I agree with you when you said people should put their dreams and asperations around money and the such - this is true but haven’t you people ever felt like this before? Even if you haven’t vioce it to the world?
1. having a job and a car are NOT necessary in this society. There is public transportation along with walking and riding your bike. I know of people who don’t have any job at all and get buy off the land.
2. Student loans, Financial aid - yup got those. Sad thing is that there is still college costs that aren’t covered. Don’t believe me? Let’s go talk with Brian over at Davenport College who had discussed this all with me.
If you know of some other program or deal then please let me know. I am on a goverment mailing list that emails me every so often with scholarships and grants that are going around. I haven’t found one I can use.
3. What school do you go to and do you live at home with your parents? Do you pay rent? and pay at least 95% of your way through life?
whoeveryouwantittobe (i’m a coward) - if you’re wondering why you have (i’m a coward) by your name - it’s because you aren’t man/woman enough to stand up for your words. From now on I will be adding this phrase to anyone who doesn’t put their name - it’s just rediculous.
If you let people know who you are then they will be removed.
Schaap- I’ve felt broken before.. more times than i can list. But when i do .. i take some deep breaths and think about what life has dealt me. 100% of the time i find things that put me ahead of more people than not.
Granted , it doesn’t always make the depression go away. However, **** the people who lead you on with promised jobs. In the end what the hell is going to matter? That you helped some jackass organize his billing more effectively online? That you made a 1200 of some moron who wants to sell pool tables over the internet? Or that you developed a new way to communicate with thousands of people to acheive something greater?
There’s plenty of room on the interenet for your dreams and talent. If you really want to find success and meaning.. make sure your work (at least a portion of it) is benefiting society or pushing it further toward a positive goal.
Corporate america rarely, if ever, rewards you for that type of thought process. Especially since in today’s world it means undermining our society.
Don’t let them break you man. Their not worth the spit in your mouth.
i mispelled a **** load of words in that last post.. that should make you feel better if nothing else.
