broadband trouble
_22:55
For some reason the broadband gods don’t look very highly upon me. We just got Cable Internet at our house because our DSL is just horrible and i’m still getting screwed.
The deal with Cable Internet is that you’re only supposed to have one computer connected to it at a time. This is what a Cable company would tell you but if you buy a router you can easily over-come the technicalities.
From the beginning we had planned on getting a router (only $80.00) but out of the blue Emily decides that it would be much better to make our own router. Making your own router isn’t the hardest thing in the world but if you don’t know much about Linux and IP Masqueradeing - it probably would be.
I used to have a Linux configured router that ran all from a frigg’in floppy but that was awhile ago and I don’t remember what the password is anymore - meaning it’s useless.
But all that is beside the point - it would be easy to just buy a router and hook it up so we can all get online but Emily opted out. Along with all this I can’t get online. I did end up getting connected with my laptop using our old DSL service (it wasn’t cancelled yet).
Bad thing about that is I’m sitting on the stairs next to our HUB because the extra CAT 5 wire I have is only 5 feet long. Basically I’m not a happy person when I can’t get my computer online. I’m alittle happier if I can get my laptop on but all my files are on the main computer -
on another note:
I’m having trouble with my comment links. Sometimes they are showing up and other times they aren’t. Maybe next week I’ll figure it all out. Hopefully this is something that only is happening on my end. If not let me know will ya?
