New iMacs are out

Tuesday_23:41

New iMac that just came out :-)From apple.com: “The new iMac is designed around a stunning 15-inch LCD flat screen thatís brighter, sharper and easier on the eyes than old-fashioned CRT displays.

And instead of requiring your neck, shoulders and back to do the adjusting, the new iMacís display literally glides through the air ó allowing you to effortlessly adjust its height or angle with a touch of your finger.”

That and so much more just makes me want to give up my PC with Win2000 and go out and buy a MAC. I’ve been working with MAC’s at work and I’m really starting to get used to them —- and if you can keep a secret — I’m actually starting to like them :-0

In other news:

Today is Elvis Presly’s birthday and I can let you know for a fact that people celebrated.

On the other side of what’s going on today - Dave Thomas (owner of our beloved Wendy’s) died today. According to the news - Thomas died around midnight at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from cancer of the liver.

Thomas had a carcinoid tumor, which is a slow growing cancer, for more than a decade. If you get a chance — go to Wendy’s and buy a burger with fries and a Coke. He would have wanted it that way.

The new iMAC’s seem to be taking up alot of attention over at Slashdot.org:

What are your thoughts on the new iMAC’s. I’ve had many cons and pros about it but mostly good. One is that people aren’t ready to move up to OS X (although I agree with Apple in the push).

Some of skeptical of it all because of the whole cube deal some time back. Where as some over at Slashdot.org are thinking that they are breasts and are planning on buying them in pairs — haha!!

Derek would impulse buy a new iMac if he had $1800 lying around. Says:

I love the new iMac. Period.

Sure, I have skeptical thoughts on it, but come on. Other than in sci-fi comics or movies, did you ever think that you’d see a computer come in any shape other than the traditional monitor-and-tower config? Apple is so far ahead of anybody else in terms of futuristic design that it doesn’t even matter if they get backlash on this design (a la the Cube). It’s just another notch on their “we have superior design and R&D” belt. It’s another award from Communication Arts and I.D.

As for the tech end of the argument, Apple overcame every argument thatsurfaced against the old iMacs regarding expandability. With the exception of monitors, you can now easily revamp just about everything on that beast. And who’s going to gripe at a 15” LCD? And how many computers on the market come with 5 USB ports? Rocking!

As for leaning into OSX, you had to know that Apple would do it sooner or later. They met with a lot of gripes when they went fully into USB and ditched floppy drives, but nowadays who even remembers it? If technology is going to progress, I guess somebody has to be the one to drop the axe on the old. At least there’s still a little support for OS9 (sub-par though it may be).

I’m ready to trade my G4 tower in for that thing. I want to play.

Derek sheds a fast-food tear Says:

Oh, and on the other important development of 01/08/02:

I ate a Junior Bacon Cheeseburger and a medium fries yesterday for Dave. Say what you will about fast food and consumerism, but that guy was damned likeable. I always had a soft-spot for him.

Aaron Schaap Says:

I’ll admit i’ve also had soft spot for Dave Thomas (aka - GOD of burgers). I hope that his death doen’t go unnoticed and that other company owners realize the impact of being personal.

The thing I loved about Dave was that he put his face all over what he owned and worked so hard for - through the good times and bad. Not many people can say that.

What I found interesting as well was that he was an orphan that was taken in by a Michigan family (i think it was Michigan) at the age of 6 months. I’m sure it was only for free burgers and fries but it was still nice of that family.

Later in his life he also owned 11 KFC’s to which he learned about the fast food business - which brought him to start the ever popular - WENDY’S. With the lovely Wendy Girl as there mascot :-)

We’ll miss you buddy —
