First Day in Europe

Saturday_11:35 AM

This is Aaron Schaap bringing you a post from Europe. Let me just fill you in on how things went while coming over here and how they’re going now.

The trip here:

We left at 8:30 in the morning for Trinity Christian College with about 3 hours of sleep. Once at Trinity we hung out with Rob and Denise and after a bit of that they brought us to the airport and our began.

Checking in went really good but let me tell ya - Security is really intense. They actually took our bags and took everything out and sometimes would ask us all these questions about what we were doing and why we were going to Europe.

It wasn’t really that bad. After awhile it got rather annoying having our stuff fully checked everytime we went to get on the plane.

The plane rides themselves were fine until we got to the 8 hour plane ride from New York to Amsterdam. Also know as “The Plane ride from Hell”.

I’ve never been on an 8 hour plane ride and let me tell ya - it’s no walk in the park. I got so frigg’in sick and my stomach was pretty close to exploding. After a couple hours I tried to make it back to the bathroom because I thought I was going to throw up but I didn’t make it.

I didn’t throw up - I passed out. I just was walking and the next thing I knew I was on the floor. My chin really hurt and all kinds of people were around me asking if I was ok. Finally they got me up and gave me an oxygen tank for breathing. I didn’t move much and after awhile I started to shake profusly. My body freaked out on me - One second I was freezing and the next I was sweting.

They got me a bunch of blankets and I just sat in the back with the plane people. After an hour I started feeling better and I told them that I was going to try making it back to my seat.

After that I was doing pretty well until we got about an hour from landing - my stomach started acting up again and it just plain hurt, alot.

Here in Amsterdam:

Not much to really explain here yet. We got in about 10:30 AM and Patrick picked us up. We went to his house and tried really hard not to sleep. Walked around for awhile, took some pictures and finally got some good old sleep.

This morning I’m doing much better and we’re planning on going to Nardeen in a couple minutes.

So that’s what’s going on so far. I’ll work on getting some postcards out ASAP :-)

To be honest I don’t remember anymore. I would say it’s around the Netherlands. If memary serves me right it is a small town but very lovely. I’ll see if I can find it for ya sometime this week. Feel free to contact me by email and we’ll figure it out.

A little late to comment, but oh well. You probably mean Naarden. It is known for the fortified town walls (‘vesting’ in dutch) and for the statue of Comenius, which brings in a lot of tourists from Slovakia (where he was born).

You didn’t miss much.
